The Land of Craters

When Galileo built his first telescope in the late 1609 he used it to study the Moon. He discovered that contrary to the general opinion at that time, the Moon was not a perfect sphere, but had both mountains and cup-like depressions. He later called these depressions as craters.

Scientists spent tremendous time and energy studying the craters in the moon. In fact, they have identified almost millions of craters and actually named some of them. Most of the craters were caused by asteroids, comet, and meteorites which collided on its surface. Men were even sent to the moon just study this phenomenon.

Scientist need not go to the moon just to understand crater. There is a place on earth where you can visibly study and even experience being up close and personal with craters. The place is Metro Manila, the national capital region of the Philippines. Here, potholes expand into monstrous craters especially during rainy seasons. City government is doing something to cover-up these craters using the “patchi-patchi” method. This method is a careless and unscientific way covering potholes with low-quality asphalt. This is why potholes in Metro  Manila are like zombies, you kill them today but it will resurrect a few days later.

To all CRATERiologist out there, no need to travel the moon just to fully understand craters. Just visit Metro MOONila. The land of craters
